宣公上人（宣化上人）:菩薩不但謙虛，而且恭敬。無論對誰都有禮貌，非常客氣，絕對沒有貢高我慢的作風，也沒有目空一切，瞧不起任何人的行為。

菩薩不但謙虛，而且恭敬。無論對誰都有禮貌，非常客氣，絕對沒有貢高我慢的作風，也沒有目空一切，瞧不起任何人的行為。對一切眾生都生恭敬心、慈愍心，所謂「菩薩不見眾生過。」為什麼？因為菩薩有慈悲心。菩薩不傷害自己，也不傷害眾生，更不會即害已又害人。因為菩薩修忍辱波羅蜜的法門，一切都在忍受，沒有瞋恨心，所以不兩害。菩薩心中不生取的欲念，口裡不說取的言語，自己不生取的念，也不為眾生生取的念。即不為已，又不為人，在兩者之間，沒有共取的念。菩薩自己不貪著，也不教眾生貪著，自己和眾生，都不貪著。菩薩雖然弘法利生，但不求名聞利養。菩薩已經身口意三業清淨，不造殺盜婬妄酒的業。這是修無違逆行的開始。

A bodhisattva is not only humble but also respectful. They show politeness and courtesy to everyone, without any arrogance or pride, and never act with disdain or look down on others. A bodhisattva maintains a respectful and compassionate heart towards all beings, as it is said, "A bodhisattva does not see the faults of others." Why? Because a bodhisattva has a heart of compassion. A bodhisattva does not harm themselves, nor do they harm others, and they certainly do not harm themselves while also harming others. This is because a bodhisattva practices the paramita of patience and endures all, without harboring anger, thus avoiding harm to both themselves and others.

A bodhisattva does not give rise to desires for possession in their heart, nor do they speak words of acquisition. They do not have possessive thoughts for themselves, nor do they generate such thoughts for others. Neither for themselves nor for others, there is no mutual desire for possession. A bodhisattva does not cling to anything, nor do they teach others to cling. Both they and all beings are free from attachment. Although a bodhisattva works to spread the Dharma and benefit beings, they do not seek fame, profit, or personal gain. A bodhisattva’s body, speech, and mind are pure, and they refrain from creating the negative actions of killing, stealing, sexual misconduct, lying, and intoxication. This is the beginning of practicing actions that are free from opposition or error.
